Eyewear Entrepreneurs & Designers the challenges you face entering an unknown industry have many chapters from design/branding to country of origin, to pricing, to quality, language barriers, to all the small details that need to be sorted/finalized to ultimately receiving quality product as you envisioned it. As a veteran in the eyewear industry for the last 18 years, I have developed and designed eyewear collections for high-end designers to major chains, I found two articles that highlighting the best way to get the eyewear collection you envisioned.
Racked article DANIELLE DIRECTO-MESTON The first article titled, “How These LA Art School Grads Are Disrupting the Luxe Eyewear Scene” by Danielle Directo-Meston details the experience of two art school students venturing into the eyewear market. The journey explains the eyewear monopoly, challenges in finding realiable sources, the inflated margins and the variances in quality levels. Danielle’s Q&A with the designers goes thru every step of the design and manufacturing process. The designers’ feedback explains how they were able to learn from the experience in a successful manner.

The second article titled, “A Closer Look at the $13 Billion Premium Eyewear Market” by Robin Mellery- Pratt, gives the reader a global view perspective of the eyewear industry. It details the top dominant eyewear players, their strengths and challenges they face. The author points out the growth opportunities that are directly related to demographics, education, changing buying patterns and the influence of digital. http://bit.ly/2e3dsSY
Drawing on these two articles based on my expert knowledge working for large eyewear wholesalers and retailers for 18 years. I have listed three actions you should follow as an aspiring Eyewear entrepreneur and designer.
1. Create Partnerships- This is a very detailed, technical product- find a mentor/partner to guide you.
2. Research- Establishing a brand is risky. Take the time to know your competition materials.
3. Embrace Technology- Begin a social media platform to capture your audience, success will come from direct consumer feedback.
There is no better day to launch your dream Eyewear brand, your vision will guide you with a complimentary partnership, industry knowledge and being in-tuned with your ideal customer.
